This manual page is outdated. NEW PAGE: Blogs tab in b2evolution v5+.

Contents

[edit] Select or create a blog

The first page in the Blogs (aka Global or List) tab is a list of all blogs (if you're the administrator) or all blogs that you have permission to edit. If you want to edit the settings for a blog, click on the title of that blog in the left column. The blog url column contains a link to display each blog. On the right side there is a link to delete each blog. Be careful, there's no way to undo this. Finally, at the bottom of the page is a link to Create a new blog. Whether you want to create a blog or edit an existing one, you'll be taken to the next page.

Blog Setting's in the Admin Area

[edit] General tab

[edit] General parameters

The full name will be displayed on top of the blog. The short name will be used in selection menus and throughout the admin interface. The short name is limited to 12 characters. You can also choose the main locale for the blog. It determines what language the navigation links are in. With this feature you can have a French blog, a German blog and an English blog all on the same installation. And the navigation links will match the language. (And no, this doesn't mean that your posts are automatically translated into this language.)

[edit] Blog URL parameters

This is where you can decide what url will be used to find your blog. One blog should be set to be the default blog for index.php. Other blogs can always be displayed at index.php?blog=2 (or whatever the id of the blog in question). But you may want to have urls for your blogs that are more meaningful or easier to remember. For that you can use stub files. Read more about them here: Stub file

[edit] Default display options

The Default skin dropdown box is where you choose which skin your blog will be displayed with.

Allow skin switching determines whether the user will be able to override the default setting and display your blog with another skin. If you allow skin switching and a reader changes skins, their preference will be saved on their computer in a cookie. Any time they look at a blog on your site that allows skin switching, it will display the blog with their chosen skin rather than the default. See also: Change the way my blog looks

There are some checkboxes pertaining to the blog list. Check Display public blog list if you want to display the list of all blogs on your blog page (if your skin supports this). Check Include in public blog list if you want this blog to be displayed in the list of all public blogs.

[edit] Customized CSS

Allow customized blog CSS file enables a style.css file, if it exists in the blog's media directory and Allow user customized CSS file for this blog enables a style.css file in the user's media directory. The first option allows you to change the style of your blog by users who have access to the blog's media directory, while the latter option allows each user to customize a blog.

[edit] Description

Use this section to add some meta data to your blog. The tagline and long description are displayed on your blog if your skin supports them. The long description can include html, inlcuding links and images. The short description and keywords are added into the <head> of your blog pages and scanned by search engines to see what your page is about. If search engine ranking and traffic are important to you, then make sure you fill these two out, but note that they don't allow html. The notes field is just for your use and will not be displayed on the blog.

Remember to save any changes before going on to the next tab.

[edit] Permissions

Use this tab* to decide who can do what to this blog. All versions have individual user permissions, but in b2evolution 1.6 and later there are also group permissions.

  • If no such tab appears, select Features, then check "Use advanced perms" under Multiple Authors.

If a user or group is a member of this blog, then they'll be able to see posts with a status of "protected."
